Advocacy & Awareness

What is advocacy? What does it mean to be an advocate? Who can be an advocate? Where do you go when you need “back up”?

What is autism awareness? Or autism acceptance? Why are they so important and who can you turn to for help?

These are just some of the questions we will be looking at here in the ‘Advocacy and Awareness’* section.  See below for a preview of some of the subsections you will find here:

Advocacy: What Is It And How Does It Work? – Answering the most basic questions about advocacy and how you can be involved.

Autism Awareness: Not Just One Month A Year – While blue is a very nice colour and April is a very active month for autism awareness, everyone affected by this condition knows that awareness actually runs 24hr/day, 365 days/year. Here we will explore how to bring awareness to your community and how, no matter how small the action, each of us makes a difference.

Human Rights: The HR Office Everyone Reports To – Life is not all smooth sailing and sometimes a situation will be escalated until you feel as though you have no where else to turn. In this subsection, we will briefly go over how to contact the Manitoba Human Rights Commission, as well as their claim and appeal processes.

When It’s Time to Call the Lawyer – No one wants to have to go there, but there are times when legal protection is necessary. In this subsection, we will discuss tips on how to decide if and when seeking legal representation is the best option, if there are local organizations who can help you with your concerns before seeking legal assistance, etc.

*Please note: The items discussed in this section will be generalizations only. The decision to file a claim with the Human Rights Commission or to seek out legal support is a personal one. Please speak to your lawyer(s) or a Manitoba or Canadian Human Rights Commission professional for specifics regarding your own personal situation*

If you can think of any other subjects that you would like to see included or if you would like to have your own point of view/experience included in an article, please feel free to contact us at any time.

Thanks for stopping by!

With an abundance of enthusiasm and support, cheers for now.
